The UPLB Genetics Society (GeneSoc) remains committed to its mission of promoting the science of genetics and providing a platform for students to engage in study groups through BIO 30 Tutorials.

For the First Semester of A.Y. 2024-2025, GeneSoc partnered with the UPLB Learning Resource Center (LRC) to host two consecutive BIO 30 Tutorials for the upcoming BIO 30 (Genetics) exams. Honored guest lecturer, Asst. Prof. Argel L. Arenas of the Genetics and Molecular Biology Division, guided both review sessions.

The first BIO 30 Tutorial, held on September 24, 2024, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Makiling Ballroom Hall, Student Union Building, was attended by a total of 127 students. The educational session served as preparation for the BIO 30 takers’ first examination, with topics covering:

  1. Genetics as the science of heredity and variation;
  2. The chromosomal basis of heredity; and
  3. Gene segregation and allelic interactions.

The second BIO 30 Tutorial was a refresher lecture in preparation for the second examination. The session took place on November 12, 2024, at the same venue but was set at an earlier time from 6:30 to 9:00 PM to have ample time for the in-depth discussion of concepts and student queries. A total of 138 students attended this educational event, with the first 50 students who pre-registered receiving free printed handouts. The topics tackled in this session were as follows:

  1. Linkage and recombination;
  2. Chemical basis of heredity; and
  3. Gene functions and protein enzymes.

GeneSoc would like to extend its sincerest thanks to all students who attended and participated in the tutorials, and the Organization always wishes for their best performance in their exams. GeneSoc also expresses its gratitude to Asst. Prof. Argel L. Arenas and the UPLB Learning Resource Center for their invaluable support in making these events possible.
