BATCH CHROMOPLEXY: Complexity Driving to Change

by: Mariah Jahnel Angelique Talosig | Chromoplexy

Chromoplexy refers to large-scale genomic rearrangements where multiple chromosomes undergo complex, interrelated breakage and fusion, leading to the creation of oncogenic fusion genes. Though it seems intimidating, Batch Chromoplexy embodies the idea of complexity leading to change. With seven individuals from different academic paths, the group brings together diverse perspectives and skills, thus creating a dynamic harmony and a stronger and unbreakable group—much like how DNA rearrangements form powerful and resilient cells.

The batch comprises four students from BS Biology: Iya, Siah, She, and Jewel, and three BS Nutrition students: Nashee, Ian Manansala, and Ange. In essence, Batch Chromoplexy symbolizes how those that may seem complex at first can be an avenue for promoting awareness and driving force for innovation and change in the field of genetics, given the diversity and strength within the batch.

Mariah Jahnel Angelique Talosig

Dependable and quick-witted, Angelique, or “Ange,” is a kind-hearted person who never fails to put a smile on people's faces. Her presence is like a soothing breeze, offering a refreshing escape from the heat of a sun-drenched day due to her cool, laid-back personality. Yet, don’t be fooled; beneath this chill persona lies a profound, fiery passion for her work. Her creativity runs like a vibrant river, infusing each idea with color that elevates the ordinary into spectacular art.

Sheena Gaudia

With her dauntless red lipstick, Sheena, or “Nashee,” will captivate everyone with her voice that fills a room. There’s never a dull moment with her, as she has a contagious,  loud laugh that can brighten anyone’s day. With a warm and comforting presence, Nashee naturally becomes the “ate” of the batch, guiding and supporting everyone without exception. As a companion, she is as sweet as the desserts she adores, but as a fierce advocate, her words carry a bold zest, always ready to express her thoughts, confidently making her presence known.

Josiah Caleb Magollado

Always quick to throw playful exaggerations, Josiah, or “Siah,” can make every serious or mundane conversation into an entertaining and utterly unforgettable experience. Yet beneath his wit and teasing personality lies a sharp intellect and unwavering passion that truly shines through. Consistently, Siah is willing to take charge in challenging situations and further offers encouragement and guidance, genuinely embodies the “kuya” figure in the batch.

Ian Justin Manansala

Initially quiet and reserved at a glance, Ian surprises everyone with his easygoing and lively spirit. Nothing compares to the stomachache you get from laughing at his great sense of humor. Beyond his radiant presence, he is remarkably intellectual. Known for his neat handwriting, his meticulousness reflects his attention to detail. Despite being the youngest in the batch, Ian demonstrates admirable leadership qualities, proving that age is not a barrier to creating a lasting impact.

Ma. Shereena Tabur

On a gloomy, quiet afternoon, a sudden burst of laughter will fill the air owing to the effortless humor of Shereena, or “She,” transforming the atmosphere from serene to joyful. Her calm and collected attitude makes these moments surprising, as laughter arises unexpectedly and leaves everyone uplifted. Above all, her willingness to lend a helping hand and step up reflects her sheer enthusiasm. Her voice and insightful mind instantly draw everyone in, highlighting her innate leadership abilities.

Jewel Christi Umali

Just like her name suggests, Jewel embodies the qualities of a precious stone—bright and brilliant. Soft-spoken and innocent, she radiates a gentle presence reminiscent of comforting sitcoms that are her favorites. Jewel’s contagious smile lights up the room, similar to how a ray of sunshine reflects the facets of a diamond. Within that calming aura is an impressive ability to balance social life and academics with ease, shining brightly in any setting.

Alodia Iyanla Viray

As bold as her sun-kissed cheeks and as fun as her fashionable outfits, Iya’s style is a reflection of her vibrant personality. She effortlessly adapts to the tone in any room, perfectly matching others’ humor and making every interaction lighthearted. Whether drinking iced coffee, joining spontaneous food trips, or watching sitcoms with her, Iya brings warmth and authentic joy to the atmosphere, leaving a lasting impression of comfort and fun wherever she goes.
