Genes inducted as new members of honor societies in 2024

Honor societies, such as the Phi Sigma Biological Sciences Honor Society and The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, nominate the best and brightest students for official membership in their esteemed institution.

On July 13, 2024, five Genes were inducted as members of the Phi Sigma Biological Sciences Honor Society, Alpha Chi Chapter at the UP Film Institute Film Center, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City. These were Sophia Marie A. Malagday (Allosyndesis), Alyssa Mae L. Santos (Hachimoji), Koozae Calvin C. Umali (Hachimoji), Ivien Prinze F. Fetalino (Reprimo), and Mark Albert R. Sundo (Amelogenin).

Malagday graduated in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology major in Cell and Molecular Biology. She is currently continuing her graduate studies under the Master of Science in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology program at UPLB. Santos, Umali, and Fetalino recently graduated in August under the same degree program with majors in Microbiology, Cell and Molecular Biology, and Genetics, respectively. These three recent graduates had the academic distinction of Cum Laude. Meanwhile, Sundo is a graduating BS Biology student majoring in Zoology.

Candice Andrea D. Luzon (Crypton), a Cum Laude in BS Nutrition, was also officially inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Along with her, Fetalino also became a member. The induction rites of Phi Kappa Phi, UP Chapter (or Chapter 045) took place on July 30, 2024 at the NCAS Auditorium, UP Los Baños, Laguna.
