The 16th National Genetics Symposium, spearheaded by the National Society for the Promotion of Genetics, Inc. (ProGEN), was conducted at the SEARCA Umali Auditorium, University of the Philippines Los Baños last March 21-22, 2024.
With the theme, “Delivering Solutions: From Genetics to Genomics,” the two-day event welcomed experts from the academe, industry, and health sector to share informative lectures regarding recent biotechnological developments in fields of plant breeding, insect pest management, zoonotic diseases, and forensic genomics to name a few.
Competitions for best undergraduate thesis and best poster were also held during the symposium In addition, the Young Scientists’ Forum was also done, wherein emerging topics in genetics such as Molecular Anthropology, Cattle Genomics, and Ethnopharmacology were discussed by some of the promising youth.
Dr. Joy M. Jamago, a Professor under the Department of Agronomy and Plant Breeding at the Central Mindanao University, was elected as the new ProGEN President (2024-2026).
