From May 13 to May 17, 2024, The UPLB Genetics Society (GeneSoc) will be celebrating its annual BIO 30 Week at the Student Union (SU) Building, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). With the theme, “Backstage Gene-sider!: Exploring the Role of Genetics in Behavioral Patterns,” BIO 30 Week 2024 is packed with exciting activities that will delve into the interplay of genes and environment that influence our behavior.
About the theme and exhibit: Behavioral Genetics
The genetic study of behavioral patterns aims to investigate the nature of individual differences in behavior through genetic methods. Environmental variables cannot be cleaved from this conversation, as the interaction of genes and the environment have long been the subject of behavioral genetic studies for more than a century.
Behavioral patterns are often the forefront of what we see in human interactions, but peering into the backstage of what causes such behavior from a genetic perspective is an experience that we aim to share during the course of BIO 30 Week. Through the physical exhibit at Molawin Hall, SU Building, we will shine a spotlight on the educational content, flagship activities of the organization, our dearest alumni, and the resident members who have worked devotedly behind the scenes to bring you the best of BIO 30 Week.
Aside from exploring the physical exhibit, BIO 30 Week will also feature the following activities:
Educational Seminar. In line with the goal of the organization to promote academic excellence, The UPLB Genetics Society will conduct an in-person seminar in accordance with the theme. Invited guest speaker Assistant Professor Jholyan Francis Fornillos, Chairperson of the Department of Social Sciences Research Ethics Committee and Pangulo of the Pambansang Samahan sa Sikolohiyang Pilipino, will deliver a lecture centered on behavioral genetics and psychopathy.
