On November 23, 2020, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) conferred the Top CAS Student award to The UPLB Genetics Society (GeneSoc) resident member Justin Gabriel J. Badlis (Crypton) during the 48th Founding Anniversary Recognition and Testimonial Ceremonies of the UPLB College of Arts and Sciences. A virtual awarding ceremony took place in the CAS Facebook page due to the limitations brought about by the current pandemic.

Justin is currently a BS Biology Sophomore student. In the start of his freshman year, Justin immediately showed his brilliance when he placed Top 3 in the University of the Philippines Admission Test - Los Baños and Top 1 in the BS Biology Batch of 2019. It comes with no surprise that he has yet again proved that his perseverance and intellect is worthy of recognition.

In line with his consistent excellence in academics, Justin considers himself to be like any other student―hustling to meet deadlines, staying up late to review for exams, and cramming days worth of tasks. He also claims to have no specific study habits as he spends most of his time dancing and listening to KPop, reading Manga, and playing online games. Despite the current set-up, he still manages to maintain his enthusiastic and easy-going personality. Justin also finds a unique fondness for the environment which makes him consider taking Plant Biology, Ecology, or even Systematics as his major. With his natural curiosity and appreciation for the beauty of knowledge, he plans to get a postgraduate degree in Marine Science and delve into research.

Apart from this, Justin is also skilled in the arts. He is currently a member of GeneSoc’s Projects Committee in which he is able to showcase his talents and ideas in the various exhibits of the organization. His leadership skills also manifests in the organization, as he currently serves as the cohead of the supplies committee of GeneSoc’s outreach programs. He also served as the head of invitations committee in the National Intercollegiate Genetics Quiz Contest 2020. He has also previously managed his own art account where he was able to compile his drawings of his favorite characters and K-Pop artists.

“It's not that I'm doing anything special, but the people around me do. And they inspire me to do better.”
