GeneSoc holds first online elections; Tria wins presidency

BREAKING NEWS: With the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) in the Philippines being eased up to make way for the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) despite COVID-19 cases in the country not lessening, The UPLB Genetics Society, (GeneSoc) held its first remote and virtual election via Zoom Meetings on June 01, 2020 with John Kenneth Tria, Batch Allosyndesis, BS Biology elected as its 37th term President. 

For the aforementioned position, there were three nominees, namely: John Kenneth Tria (Allosyndesis), John Dane Valdez (Allosyndesis), and John Nicolas Olitin (Isochore). The elections were facilitated by the COMELEC led by Lance Lopez (Spireme). Ultimately, after long hours of presentations and deliberations that lasted from 1pm to 10pm, Kenneth Tria was voted for the position. With the use of online meeting and livestreaming technologies via Facebook Live, the alumni were able to watch the elections and ask questions to the nominees. 


In his term, Kenneth seeks to strengthen Passion, Excellence, and Service in the 37th Year of GeneSoc. His goal is to continue upholding the science of genetics in the context of social relevance and serve our countrymen along with the alumni amidst the pandemic while keeping the welfare of the resident members in check.

On the upcoming days, and possibly weeks, the rest of the nominees for the remaining positions will be deliberated upon and voted by the members until all positions are filled in.
