After seven (7) years, The UPLB Genetics Society (GeneSoc) proudly marked the long-awaited return of its Medical Mission on June 13, 2025, held at the Brgy. Sampiruhan Multipurpose Court in Calamba City, Laguna. With the theme “Mula Sa Amin, Para sa Gene-yo: Lingkod Pangkalusugan na Hatid ng GeneSoc”, the initiative reaffirmed GeneSoc’s unwavering commitment to community service and public health advocacy. This event aimed to bring essential medical assistance directly to the people, bridging the gap between science, service, and compassion.
Organized in partnership with the City Health Office of Calamba and PhilHealth Konsulta, the medical mission offered a wide range of free healthcare services including general check-ups, chest X-rays, electrocardiograms (ECG), complete blood counts (CBC), dental consultations, mental health assessments, cataract screenings, and blood sugar testing. Free medicines were also distributed to ensure that treatment and recovery could continue beyond the event itself. The importance of folic acid was also highlighted to the participants of the medical mission in partnership with the Volunteer Youth Leaders for Health (VYLH) - Philippines. Through this, GeneSoc underscored the importance of accessible and holistic healthcare, especially for underserved communities.
The success of this event was made possible by the dedication of both resident members and alumni of GeneSoc, whose passion for service brought the project to life. Special recognition is extended to Dr. Maria Casipe, Dr. Rio Rita Santiago, M.D. FPPS, and to Dr. Rachel Reventar, a licensed paediatrician, and a proud GeneSoc alumna, who volunteered their expertise in conducting health consultations and check-ups for the community. Their commitment exemplified the spirit of giving back that defines the GeneSoc family.
