Batch Paralogon: Unity in Origin, Diversity in Destiny

A paralogon refers to a group of duplicated genes called paralogs that trace back to a single ancestral gene. A gene duplication event is the source of all paralogons, and it is considered an error within the mechanisms in the cell and although that event was accidental, it is the main source of new genes and what drives evolution forward. In the same way a paralogon is made by unplanned duplication, Batch Paralogon unexpectedly formed at Aling Gene-a’s tindahan, and with one shared origin alongside our individuality, we will all evolve towards our own destinies.

This batch consists of one student in BS agricultural chemistry: Ley, and five BS Biology students Eri and Lori, who both major in Genetics, along with James, Ysa, and Billie; Batch Paralogon encapsulates how people, no matter what they achieve or evolve into, can always be traced back to their origin. Showcasing the beginning of something great and the diversity within the batch as we set out on our own goals. 

Billie 

Behind every dedicated batch is someone who keeps it grounded—that's Billie, Batch Paralogon's rock. He's very dependable and has a deep sense of responsibility: from ensuring that everyone got home safe and sound to speaking up to us when we do not have the courage to do so, keeping the batch working. His caring nature shines through, and while his corny banters earn a few eye-rolls, they never fail to bring laughter.

James

A stoic tall man on the outside, a comical genius on the inside. James is always one to talk on any topic but expect a punchline or two. A comedian, some would say, but don’t let his witty jokes fool you. Behind all those hilarious one-liners lies an intellectual and loving person, someone that can explain anything with ease and make you feel valued in any setting. James shows that brilliance and compassion might not so be obvious to the average crowd. 

Erika

Like a speeding bullet, silent but deadly, well, in this case, more so mischievous. That’s Erika or “Eri”. Quiet at first, but expect her playful banters and intelligent remarks once you get to know her. A poke to your side to annoy you and the occasional crash outs from her exams that she will most definitely top in her class. But with all that tomfoolery, lies a dependable and caring person, ensuring the work is always done, the performance always done right, and the results always satisfactory. Her care for others is as much as her reliability, always there to drive you home, but just make sure to grab onto your seats.

Ley 

A wholesome and kind soul wrapped in whimsy and joy, the “bunso” of the batch, Ashley or “Ley”. Constantly feeling the room with laughter and bliss. Her positive energy is second to none, but underneath all that youthful delight, is an empathetic and mature person. Someone that can help you get back on your feet, and lessen the worries of everyday life. Ley, the happy pill that everyone needs and deserves, no prescription required. 

Ysa 

As addicting and bubbly as a soda pop, meet Isabella or “Ysa”. With her around, there’s never a stale moment, always popping with joy, brimming with laughter, and overflowing with love. She always makes sure that everyone is alright and would notice the slightest of troubles. Not afraid to show her love and care for you, but would also not hold back on a quick tease while eating her weekly froyo. Her welcoming spirit and comforting presence will surely make you feel loved and accepted. 

Lori

Fine, fresh, fierce, on the runway of IBS wing C, the one and only, Lori. She could effortlessly be serving looks with her outfits in IBS or in any corner of the world with her adventures everyday. When she’s not showing off her looks, she’s excelling in her exams or making the most dazzling of pubmats. Never afraid to speak her mind, her attitude, looks, and confidence is bound to leave a lasting impression on you. Just be sure to see her before she embarks on her next adventure.
