A Toast to the 41st!

Being the president of an academic organization has not always been a dream of mine in the first place. I’ve always known I could lead, but the thought of being at the very top felt overwhelming—it carried a weight of responsibility I wasn’t sure I was ready for. But all those doubts began to fade the moment I saw each officer step up and embrace their role with courage and commitment. And I asked myself, “Who am I to decline the position which the resident members entrusted me with?”.

Even though doubts and fears initially dominated during our term’s election, I am beyond grateful that each of my co-executive officers set those aside for the sake of the organization’s future. I am really proud of all of you as I have witnessed your growth, passion, and excellence in everything that we have done and accomplished during our term.

Looking back at our progress,  I can say with pride that this term has not only revived but also elevated so many of our beloved events. To start, we successfully revived one of the most prestigious national events—The National Intercollegiate Genetics Quiz Contest. This would not have been possible without the help of our active resident members and the meticulous planning of the 40th Executive Officers.

We also welcomed three incredible batches into the gene pool—Batch Chromoplexy, Fosmid, and Harbinger—through GeneSoc orientations that shaped well-rounded and passionate individuals. Additionally, our BIO 30 tutorials became a true hit among students as we always draw over 100 participants in every session. Wherever we staged, our educational exhibits always stood out with our ever-creative themes and informative contents.

“One Gene, One Child” continued and became even better as we shared an interview with the persons-in-charge at the HOPE Intervention Center. And lastly, a long-held dream turned into reality—the Medical Mission 2025, which served the people of Barangay Sampiruhan. It was exhausting but the smiles on their faces and the visible relief in their eyes made every effort worthwhile.

To have accomplished all of these in just one term feels surreal—I still can’t believe we made it happen. I may not be able to list every single win, but always remember that your Meme has been, and will always be, proud of you. Thank you, 41st, for a term filled with passion, resilience, and excellence!

To the 42nd Executive Committee—when in doubt, always go back to the reasons why you are in that position. Remember the trust that the resident members placed in you to lead our dearest organization. As the governing body of the organization, strive to be competent and always perform your duties with excellence. Always choose what is necessary and right for the betterment of our organization—our home. Support and understand your co-officers in all possible ways for leadership is never meant to be carried alone. And lastly, take a rest—it is really tiring work to be involved in all events and matters of the organization, but do not forget to take care of yourself along the way.

To the future members, may you always learn to love and serve the organization without needing to be seen or expecting anything in return. Love and serve simply because your heart calls you to do so.

Long live, and may the sky forever be our limit, Genes!
