In the spirit of camaraderie and service, The UPLB Genetics Society once again brought lots of smiles and goodies to the community of neurodivergent children at the Hope Intervention Center in Calamba City, Laguna, last December 13, 2024. The event aimed to expose the resident members to common cases of genetic diseases in children, and in doing so, form bonds with them and understand the complex social dynamics between them, their supportive parents, the institution, and society.
The Hope Intervention Center held a heartwarming Christmas Party for their students, and GeneSoc was fortunate enough to aid in this special event that celebrated the importance of acceptance and strong familial bonds.
The event boasted many colorful and joyful games for the kids, with things such as raffles, dance numbers from the students, face paint, and even bubble pools! The function room was rowdy yet merry the entire time, and the spirit of giving was truly felt in the room when the resident members distributed the donations collected from various partners and sponsors.
Beyond the fun and festivities, the event underscored an important truth: that meaningful progress in the understanding and treatment of rare genetic conditions doesn’t rely on science alone—it is deeply rooted in empathy, collaboration, and the tireless dedication of those in the special education community. These educators, specialists, and caregivers play a vital role in uplifting the lives of children with special needs, and GeneSoc remains committed to supporting efforts that bridge the gap between the science of genetics and social responsibility.
