BAÑOS, LAGUNA — GeneSoc’s passion for serving others hasn’t stopped since its
dawning. This year, GeneSoc’s current Outreach Committee Head, Ma. Angelica
Robles of Batch Cybrid, looks forward into giving her utmost in maintaining
this passionate service.
Right at
the start of the academic year, GeneSoc conducted its Adopt-A-Room program last
August 25, 2018 at the Genetic Laboratory Rooms C-125 and C-127. A similar
activity was also conducted last January 29, 2019; the Adopt-A-Wing program
allows GeneSoc members to donate supplies such as chalk boxes, whiteboard
markers, and batteries, to Wing C via the help of the IBS Director’s Office.
As part
of the Genetics Week, the annual One Gene, One Child: The HOPE Intervention
Program was conducted in Calamba, Laguna, on October 22, 2018.
With
Angelica’s volunteerism, brand new activities by the committee has also been
conducted. This is the Gene-GLE or the Genes Give Love Event. It’s first part
was conducted as part of the Christmas program in Canlubang, Laguna on December
9, 2018, and another part on February 24, 2019. These programs aim to hand out
donations such as books and toys to the children.
Next in
the list of activities for the outreach committee is the Annual Medical Mission
on May 4, 2019 in Pacific Hills Subdivision in Canlubang, Laguna. These will
feature free check-ups, circumcision, dental check-ups, and talks about folate
and newborn screening.
